Thank You!
The Children's Department would
like to thank the Pfouts family for
their generous donation in memory of
Dalton 'Tucker' Pfouts. From this
donation, we were able to purchase an
additional $3,000 worth of children's
books this year. We truly
appreciate this sizeable contribution to
our children's collection.
Launch-A-Young-Reader
Beginning with
the 2000-01 school year, the Burton
Public Library began a project to
promote reading and early library use
among kindergarten children in the
Berkshire School District and
surrounding areas. Called
'Launch-a-Young-Reader', our program
gives each new kindergartner a gift bag
containing a hardcover children's book,
an application for a library card,
materials of interest to parents, and a
coupon entitling the child to another
gift when he or she next visits our
library. This project was founded and
continued for 9 years with small
individual donations. In 2009, the
Durket family generously agreed to fund
this program for many years to come in
memory of Mr. Jospeh Durket. Mr.
Durket was long-time principal of Burton
Elementary School in the 1950s and
60s. We are grateful to the Durket
family for this wonderful gift.
The cost for
each gift bag is approximately $25.
Donations to the Joseph Durket
Launch-A-Young-Reader Fund are welcome
in any amount. All donations are
tax deductible.
We thank you for your support!

Did you know the library offers Sick Kid's Kits?
If you have a child sick at home, give us a call
at 440-834-4466 and let us know your child's interests.
We'll choose some books, magazines, movies, etc. that
your child would enjoy, pack them up, and check them out to you.
We'll also include a small get-well gift.
Then you can just run in, pick up the bag, and be on your way.
